Publication of the First Volume of the National Edition of Aldo Moro's Works

The National Edition of Aldo Moro’s Works, established by the Italian Ministry for Culture in December 2016, has published its first volume online.

The National Edition is a pilot project in the application of digital technology in human sciences. It is available on a digital platform based on the project developed by Bologna University. Eventually, it will be possible to freely read and download the 11 volumes of Moro’s works on pc, tablet, and smartphone. The digital format will also permit to selectively carry out search queries on them, making use of the advanced software developed by the Bruno Kessler Foundation for analyzing political discourse. Furthermore, the Edition will match the written texts with the eventual corresponding audio/visual documents.

Aldo Moro's National Edition makes the heritage of one of the founding fathers of the Italian Constitution and Republic available to everybody, reaching the younger generations through digital media. It gives Moro's voice back to him, allowing readers to realize what he said and wrote beyond the many stereotypes and prejudices on his personality. Its innovative digital historical-critical annotations open new opportunities for study and research on Moro, on Italian history, on political communication.

The newly-published First Volume is devoted to the young Moro's texts, those he wrote as a local and national leader of the youth, university, and intellectual Catholic Action organizations. They concern how he perceived and proposed his Christian experience, his view of the role of culture and university, his evaluation of fascism and war, his Catholic social engagement, the problems of the reconstruction of the country, and the new parties' democracy.
