Archief Théodore Lefèvre

Scope and content

The part of the archives passed on by prof. dr. W. Dewachter contain some interesting files dating back to the last years of Lefèvre’s CVP- chairmanship (1958-1961). Especially the correspondence with his party member and Prime Minister G. Eyskens on various political topics which were of importance at that time, is fascinating: it deals among others with the socio-economic and colonial matters, Flemish-Walloon relations, governmental structures. As for the following period, especially the files on the government formation of the government Lefèvre-Spaak deserve to be mentioned. Here, one can also find archival records on ‘informateur’ P. Harmel.
Otherwise, the archives coming from the Centre of Political Studies contain speeches of Lefèvre as Premier (in the parliament, on the radio and television, for the party, …) as well as interviews, occasional messages, articles and caricatures of Lefèvre. The archives coming from his private secretary Jacques Piens primarily relate to the last part of his career as minister- secretary of state of Research Policy. They mainly consist of speeches, articles and interviews. The part given by Kris Hoflack largely contains copies of pieces from Prof. dr. Dewachter’s part and a couple of original pieces of Théo Lefèvre. It is important to note that it contains a large amount of audiocassettes made by K. Hoflack on the figure of Théo Lefèvre
