Archief Louis Delvaux (1895 - 1976) - Archief Katholiek Verbond van België

Scope and content

The archives of the Katholiek Verbond (Catholic Alliance), named Katholieke Unie (Catholic Union) after the reformation in 1932, are an integral part of the Delvaux papers. Until the day the Union was housed in a permanent secretariat  in Brussels (January 1934) Delvaux maintained the archives of the organization himself and these archivalia have stayed with the secretary. The archives of the Alliance are relatively complete regarding the reports of the board, the arbitrages, the general meetings and the research committees. Gaps in the collection can be found in the correspondation of the chairman. From 1934 onwards the archives become more similar to a personal archive. Except for archivalia that deal with the further evolution of the Katholieke Partij (Catholic Party) in the national field, one can find files on the party in the district of Nijvel (dating back to 1925), the Katholiek Congres (Catholic Congress) of Mechelen (1936), some parliamentary and documentation files, and some other archivalia dealing with the postwar period. Despite the gaps in the collection, these documents are a unique source for the history of Catholic party, especially for the period 1921-1936.
