Scope and content
For the period 1981-1987 these archives contain policy files from different cells within the Coens education cabinet. Besides, they also contain a large part of the political favour of the representative/minister. The main policy files deal with the educational decrees under the volmachtenwet (law of full power) of February 1982 and March 1986, the rationalization and programming of primary education and special needs education, the extension of the length of compulsory education, the job plan, the autonomy of state education, the boarding schools, student transport, migrant education, the modernization of vocational and secondary education, the restructuring of the HOBU (non-universitary higher education), lesson packs in primary education, the management of national scientific institutes, etc.
A second part of the archives consists of the education cell of the CVP (Christian People's Party) and deals with the period 1965-1970. This cell, according to the compostion of the government, was attached to either the education cabinet, when the Minister of Education was liberal, or to the cabinet of the Prime Minister, when the Minister of Education was a socialist. Especially the files regarding the renewal of the school pact are important here.
Finally, the archives also contain soms bundles from the Gaston Geens cabinet, when he was assistant minister of Education (1980-1981), competent for subsidized education. Some interesting files deal with the rationalizaton of secundary education and the norms of type 1 and type 2 education.
