Archief Alfred Bertrand
Scope and content
The Bertrand archives cover his complete career, even if the actual ‘cabinet papers’ are incomplete and fragmentary. Only the period before the Second World War can not be found. The files from his time as a Minister relate more to his position as a CVP member of the government of the ACW movement. Bertrand, as a member of the ACW and CVP leadership, sat at the negotiation- and committee table. As such, many documents can be found concerning the government formations, the set up and execution of governmental programs and the governmental politics (for example state reform, constitutional revision during the Eyskens-Merlot/Cools government, 1968-1971). Other files deal with issues in which Bertrand was implicated, for which he was consulted or which concerned his region (for example Limburg questions like the mining issue and the reconversion politics). Further, many files and pieces concerning the European Parliament and the EVP are present.
The recording and the text of an extensive and in-depth interview (October-August 1986) with Bertrand on nearly all aspects of his career are also situated at KADOC. The text is released through detailed folders.
The transferred pictures mainly concern the ministerial career.
